The
University of Hawai'i Maui College is a public, co-educational suburbanite
college in Kahului, Hawaiʻi on the island of Maui, USA. It is among of ten
divisions of the University of Hawaiʻi system anchored by the University of
Hawaiʻi at Mānoa in Honolulu, United States of America and is approved by the
Western Association of Schools and Colleges.
In addition
to its major campus in Kahului, UH-Maui
College also operates four education centers within Maui District: Lahaina
Education Center in Lahaina , Molokai
Education Center on the island of Molokaʻi, Hāna Education Center in Hāna and
Lānai Education Center on the island of Lānaʻi. It has ten campus buildings
(Kaʻaʻike, Laulima, Hoʻokipa, Kūpaʻa, Ka Lama, The Learning Center, Noiʻi, ʻIke
Leʻa, Pāʻina, Pilina).
The
University of Hawaiʻi, Maui College was established in 1931 as the Maui
Vocational School. In 1958 its name was modified to Maui Technical School. The
college was incorporated into the University of Hawaiʻi System, USA on July 1,
1965 after the Hawaiʻi State Legislature passed the Community College Act which
developed a statewide community college system under the UH System. In 1966 its
name was modified to Maui Community College after the UH Board of Regents
approved the college to confer degrees in Associates in Arts and also
Associates in Science.
In spring
of 2011, the Western Association of Schools and Colleges Accreditation Board
endorsed the name change from Maui Community College to University of Hawaiʻi
Maui College. The name modification provides a more accurate representation of
UH Maui College's three baccalaureate degrees.
NURSING
Start an
exciting career in the health-care industry through UH Maui College’s Nursing
Training program. Part of the Hawaiʻi Statewide Nursing Curriculum, the
training program offers 2 alternatives: Practical Nurse (PN) and also Associate
in Science Registered Nurse (RN). A third alternative is available from UH
Mānoa, Bachelor of Science (BS) Registered Nurse (RN), to students who
successfully complete needed courses following admission to the third level.
Certificate of Accomplishment is also available in the fall. It is a two years
76 Credits program.
The
graduating nurse will be able to provide nursing care in the hospital,
community health, clinics and other health-related facilities. Upon completion
of the nursing training program, an Associate in Science as a Registered Nurse
(RN) Degree is awarded by the college. Nursing graduates may apply to take the
National Council Licensing Examination-RN (NCLEX-RN) upon graduation.
