Capital Community College
is a community college in Hartford , Connecticut , United States Of America.
The solely public undergraduate institution in the City of Hartford, Capital
community College was established in 1967 with the founding of Greater Hartford
Community College. In 1992 Capital combined with Hartford State Technical
College to become Capital Community-Technical College in a state-mandated
consolidation. In the year 2000, the College's name was renamed to Capital
Community College.
The College, which has
earned reaccreditation from the New England Association of Schools and Colleges
( NEASC ) in the year 2007, enrolled 3,661 pupils (Spring 2007) and is among
the leading ethnically diverse campuses in New England. 67% of students are
African American as well as Latino. Its programs of learning consist of the
associate degree in Nursing—the largest degree training program for the
preparation of Registered Nurses in the State of Connecticut.
The school made an
essential step in helping the redevelopment in downtown Hartford by setting up
a new campus at the former Ground. Fox & Co. Department-store on Main Road
in the heart of downtown. The 1, 913, 000-square-foot (177, 700 m2) structure
served as the home of the department-store until it shut in 1993. The whole
structure was renovated as well as in 2002 the college relocated into the
structure as well as various state and city offices and also numerous retail
clients on the ground level . Before setting up in downtown Hartford the
college had 2 campuses in the city - Woodland Street as well as Flatbush Avenue.
NURSING
Capital Community College
is one of 6 colleges offering The Connecticut Community College Nursing Program
(CT-CCNP), an innovative associate degree nursing program. A four-semester
training program designed to prepare registered nurses to function in the
professional position utilizing current standards of nursing practice, the
curriculum is built upon courses from the social and biological sciences,
liberal arts, and nursing. These courses provide the start for the practice of
nursing. 6 key values– critical thinking, professionalism, safe and competent
practice, communication, caring and holistic care – provide the platform for
coordinating the nursing curriculum.
A graduate of the nursing
program is awarded an Associate in Science degree as well as being qualified to
take the National Council Licensing Examination for Registered Nurses
(NCLEX-RN). Graduates can submit an application for licensure through the
Connecticut Department of Public Health. The graduate is qualified to function
as an entry-level practitioner in health-care functions, such as general or
specialty hospitals, extended care facilities, doctors’ offices, as well as clinics.
The CT-CCNP at Capital
has full permission by the Connecticut Board of Examiners for Nursing with the
approval of the Commissioner of the Connecticut Department of Public Health
which is accredited by the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing,
Inc. (ACEN)

Following are the minimum requirements for ADN-RN
Nursing Program. Minimum admission standards
include:
1. A score of 40 or higher on the College Level Math portion of the Accuplacer; OR SAT I Math score of 550 or higher; OR a score of 22 or higher on the ACT Math test; OR Connecticut Community College MAT*136 or 137, or equivalent or higher, with a grade of C or higher, completed prior to application
2. One year of high school Chemistry with a lab or Connecticut Community College CHE*111 or equivalent with a grade of C or higher, completed within five years prior+ to application.
3. A passing score on the computer proficiency test or completion of Connecticut Community College CSA*105, CSA*106 or CSC*101 or equivalent, with a grade of C or higher, completed prior to application.
4. Community College ENG*101: English Composition, or equivalent, with a grade of C or higher, completed prior to application.

5.Connecticut Community College BIO*212: Anatomy and Physiology II, or equivalent, with a grade of C+ or higher, completed within five years prior+ to application.
6. 2.7 GPA – Based on all college courses that meet the nursing admissions and nursing curriculum requirements. The Nursing GPA is a calculation specific to CT-CCNP applicants and may differ from your college GPA. (Please note: If an applicant is using a course from a Fresh Start semester to meet a nursing admission or program curriculum requirement, that course will count in the calculation of the applicant’s Nursing GPA.)
7. TEAS V score. Applicants must have an adjusted individual total score of 53.3% or higher. Only scores from TEAS version V will be accepted.
5.Connecticut Community College BIO*212: Anatomy and Physiology II, or equivalent, with a grade of C+ or higher, completed within five years prior+ to application.
6. 2.7 GPA – Based on all college courses that meet the nursing admissions and nursing curriculum requirements. The Nursing GPA is a calculation specific to CT-CCNP applicants and may differ from your college GPA.
